A haven of history and wildlife CLARE CASTLE COUNTRY PARK Suffolk's most diverse Country Park

The inaugural Magna Carta Walk between Clare and Castle Hedingham took place on  the 25th of April 2015

The walk project, undertaken jointly by the two Towns as part of the 800th Anniversary legacy, is  creating a permanently way-marked route between the two Castles, seats of three of the barons who acted as guarantors to King John's sealing of Magna Carta.   The way-marks have been produced and are being put in place by a small team from both Towns during this month, together with some nine new posts that need to be erected to take some of the way-marks.

The walk starts from Country Park car park.  The route, which as you will see from the enclosed map is on byways and footpaths for as much of the distance as possible, comprises some 8 ½ miles of relatively easy walking.

The route makes for a very pleasant way of seeing some lovely North Essex countryside, and will take somewhere between 3 and 4 hours to complete, with the seriously energetic doing it in somewhat under 3 hours.

We are organising a reverse walk ie from Castle Hedingham to Clare, on Sunday 14 June.   If you missed the walk on the 25th of April and fancy a relaxed stroll in the countryside as a fitting finale to Clare's week of main Magna Carta celebrations, then please do get in touch (Derek Blake - 01787 277335) to register.
