Take advantage of the wonderful Suffolk countryside and enjoy some of our suggested cycling routes. Each circular route begins and ends in Clare and comes highly recommended by our local cyclists. Our routes vary from about 20 to 50 miles and take you on glorious journeys through the surrounding towns and villages of Clare.

Route 1 – 18 miles
A circular ride (anti-clockwise) beginning from Clare, passing through Cavendish (where there is plenty of choice of pubs or the village shop on the green), Stanstead, Boxted, Poslingford and returning to Clare. The majority of this route is on-road and will take approximately 1 hour 10 to ride.

Route 2 – 38 miles
A route visiting a number of beautiful Suffolk towns. Starting in Clare, heading through, Cavendish, Glemsford, Stanstead and into Boxford. Take a detour to Boxford Village Stores or to the White Hart pub that is just a stone’s throw away. Continue on to Edwardstone, through Great Waldingfield, Acton, Foxearth, Pentlow and back to Clare.

Route 3 – 50 miles
Starting in Clare, head to Stoke by Clare and head on to Steeple Bumpstead and later Finchingfield. Be sure to stop at The Fox opposite the green. Continue on to Withersfield, Sibble Headingham and Halstead.
A lovely stop is a visit to The Little Book Café on Hedingham Road. A little insider tip: There is a small but friendly stop with a courtyard to the rear. Journey on to Long Melford, Glemsford, Poslingford and return to Clare.
A route that will take you approximately 3 hours 20 minutes.

Route 4 – 19.5 miles
A lovely stop is a visit to The Little Book Café on Hedingham Road. A little insider tip: There is a small but friendly stop with a courtyard to the rear. Journey on to Long Melford, Glemsford, Poslingford and return to Clare.
We expect the route will take you about 1 hour 20 to complete and is mostly on well-paved roads.

Route 5 – 30 miles
Enjoy this 30-mile ride lasting about 2 hours with a stop-off in one of many inviting Suffolk villages.
Starting in Clare, head on to Pentlow and through Cavendish. Continue on to Glemsford, Stanstead, Boxted and Hartest. Follow Hartest Lane to Bury Road and carry on through to Whepstead, Rede, Hawkedon and Assington Green before reaching Poslingford and returning to Clare.

Route 6 – 25.5 miles
Starting from Clare head on to Pentlow, Foxearth, Liston and Long Melford. Carry through to Stanstead, Hartest and until you very nearly reach Somerton. Divert on to Hawkedon and until you nearly reach Thurston End. Ride through to Stansfield, Poslingford and return to Clare.
Expect this ride to take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
